ABOUT US​

The Running Edge is a locally owned business in Hobart, Tasmania and was established in 2009 by Allan Thomas and Kim Gillard.   Together, Allan and Kim saw a gaping hole in the market realising that the needs of runners were not being properly met.  So collectively, they combined this wealth of experience and expertise, through Allan’s ongoing client base and Kim’s links to the athletic community to create The Running Edge.

Today, The Running Edge is Hobart's market leader in specialist footwear with an ongoing focus on credible, proven footwear brands sold on function and fit.

Our mission is to provide superior products and expert advice to the serious athlete, recreational runner or social walker.  Our Hobart location is a specialist running and walking store providing running shoes, walking shoes, technical clothing, accessories & nutrition to men, women and children of all ages.
Expert knowledge and professional customer service is supported by the best running and footwear technical knowledge available, including a in-depth gait analysis for all customers who wish to be fitted at no extra cost. We believe that finding the right shoe is not only down to the correct gait analysis but also in the training and the experience of the person fitting you.  

All of our staff are not only fitness fanatics but are extensively trained in upcoming products whilst working in conjunction with local podiatrists & brand representatives.  There is no need to book an appointment as we are open 6 days a week for your convenience.

And once you are ready to run or walk, The Running Edge supports numerous sporting events across the state throughout the year - open to anyone wanting to get out there and enjoy the running atmosphere.  Each event offers competitors of all abilities a chance to have a go, from the beginner walker to the advanced runner!

Located in Hobart at 73 Murray Street - just down from the State library - The Running Edge is easily accessible to regular city workers, visitors and the running community.

Allan Thomas

How long have you worked at TRE?
Alongside Kim, I started up the business back in 2009. However I've worked in the industry for over 27 years!
How do you stay active?
Running, surfing, skiing, swimming & mountain biking.
Biggest achievement so far...
Opening The Running Edge!
What's your signature dish?
I make a pretty good tandoori chicken otherwise seafood marinara is a close second.
Any future goals?
To retire fit & healthy!

Kim Gillard

How long have you worked at TRE?
Alongside Allan, I started up the business back in 2009 & haven't looked back since!
How do you stay active?
A lot of road cycling, running & all the stairs in the shop!
Biggest achievement so far...
My 2 children! And being a six time Australian marathon representative at a World Championship level.
What's your signature dish?
Chicken & pumpkin risotto.
Any future goals?
To start running/racing again!

Ruby Brothers

How long have you worked at TRE?
 I have been at The Running Edge since October 2017.
How do you stay active?
I am a super keen hockey player and have recently been loving running with my work friends.
Biggest achievement so far...
Winning three consecutive premierships with North West Graduates Hockey Club and receiving a silver medal at the state U16 tournament. 
What's your signature dish?
Stir fry. 
Any future goals?
I'd love to work on my pace in running and eventually I tope to join the police force.

How long have you worked at TRE?
 5 & a half years! Full time store manager for 2!
How do you stay active?
Run & ride with a bit of gym on the side - also trying to keep up with 3 active kids.
Biggest achievement so far...
3 awesome kids & a loving wife who puts up with me!
What's your signature dish?
Anything on the BBQ.
Any future goals?
To continue to improve.... in everything! And a sub 7 minute row.

 5 & a half years - enjoyed every minute of it!
How do you stay active?
I work as a Les Mills group fitness instructor on the side. I also love a social run, bush walk & have a keen interest in the overall health and fitness industry!
Biggest achievement so far...
Running my first marathon

Can cook a good cake or dessert!
Any future goals?
To see more of the world & do a marathon in another country!

Chasing after my wife!! Also, running and cycling.

Make a reasonable pizza.
Any future goals?
To do the Burnie 10, Point to Pinnacle and Run the Bridge after smashing out my first City to Casino!

How do you stay active?
I love going to HIIT style classes at the gym and running with the TRE staff
Biggest achievement so far...
Completing my Psychology degree with First Class Honours. Also, getting to travel the world in the uni holidays.
What's your signature dish?
My scones and peanut butter cookies have been work favourites!
Any future goals?
Finish my Master of Teaching to become a primary school teacher, and run another half marathon

Climbing the highest free standing mountain in the world - Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa!

Southern style chicken tendies, with a home-made BBQ sauce.
Any future goals?
To finish my double degree at university and work in marketing.

I started working in early 2015 & have worked casually whilst studying at uni.

A lot of running! I train most days!
Biggest achievement so far...
Representing & running well as a junior at Nationals.

To gain a degree in Social Sciences & to simply run faster!

How do you stay active?
Adventuring on Mt. Wellington which includes running, cycling and yoga.
Biggest achievement so far...
I have a few Australian champion cycling podiums but I'd have to say moving to Hobart and creating a beautiful life for myself. 
What's your signature dish?
Anything includes all the leafy greens and yummy vegetables. 
Any future goals?
To run 100km!here to edit.

Since the start of 2019 in February 
How do you stay active?
A little of everything! Running and riding the road and trails, swimming, hiking, the gym, walking up and down the supermarket aisles as I shop for me snacks..
Biggest achievement so far...
Placing 2nd in my first half Ironman, or 3rd at the Bruny Ultra.
What's your signature dish?
Rice paper rolls (they're really just a vessel for satay sauce).
Any future goals?
The 2019 NZ Ironman.
